Eastern Illinois Prepares for the Return of Delta Chi

The Delta Chi National Headquarters, EIU’s office of Greek Affairs and your EIU Delta Chi Alumni Association has been busy making plans for the chapter’s recolonization for this fall. Delta Chi National Headquarters, led by Peter Lange, has developed a three month plan to establish the initial colony at EIU. Below is a summary of the workplan:

  • Phase 1: The first phase will encompass advertising in the Daily Eastern News this spring, sending letters to incoming freshman this summer, sending letters to all male undergraduates who have a GPA above 2.75, and hosting three alumni receptions this spring and summer.

  • Phase 2: Phase 2 will involve the actual RUSH. This will take place about two weeks after the formal RUSH on campus so that we are the only social organization with a RUSH event during that time period. It is anticipated that this will occur during the last two weeks of September. During this period, members of the Alumni Association are encouraged to assist with the on-campus events.

  • Phase 3: Phase 3 will be performed by Headquarters and this will involve training of the new colony, determining the first executive board, identifying a chapter advisor and also a chapter BB. At the end of the fall 2008 semester, the class will be initiated and we will have an official colony in place.

The Alumni Association will be actively involved with each phase, but Headquarters will be spearheading the efforts. In fact, HQ will provide all the funding for recolonizing the chapter including paying for the advertisements, printed materials, cornerstones, and alumni receptions. The first of three Alumni Receptions will be held in Chicago on June 21,2008.

What can you do to help? Below are a few of the main items that will be needed by our Alumni:

  1. Donate Towards Colony Scholarships - Make a one-time donation for scholarships being set up for the incoming colony. We would like to set up a one-time scholarship for each of the new colony members of approximately $250 each. If you would like to make a donation for a scholarship, please send a check to the Alumni Association Treasurer, Dave Mills, or send payment on our website through PayPal www.eiudx.com.

  2. Recommend Underclassman - If you know of any incoming freshman or existing underclassman at EIU that would be good to start the initial colony, please send their information to one of the Board members of the Alumni Association.

  3. Attend a Delta Chi Alumni Reception – This summer there will be three alumni receptions. We are planning the first summer reception in Chicago (see below) and the other two in Charleston later this summer. The purpose of the receptions will be to gather the EIU Delta Chi alumni, introduce the HQ consultants, and invite key EIU constituents.

For the first time in over forty years we will be starting a new colony of new brothers this fall. The RUSH process being undertaken today will shape our fraternity on EIU’s campus for decades to come.

You have the opportunity to contribute to this Historical RUSH for our fraternity—it is our lifeblood.

1) Watching Dan Mclean pull Jeff Rice into the pond after a Tug loss.

2) When 'Willy's' dad came to pick him up at Mckinney Hall, we were at a bar. His roommate called and said to come asap. His dad wanted to know about the water pipes in his room.
3) Slammers at Chinks at 6:00 am after Big Brother night... then of course breakfast at Snyders.
4) Todd Woerner dancing to "Hark! When the night is calling..."
